THE NECKS - Live @ The Wintergarden Fri 29 Feb
“For those unfamiliar with The Necks… their approach is to take a musical idea, sometimes a seemingly inconsequential musical idea, with a short life expectancy, and develop it, slowly transform it, roll it around for approaching the hour mark, riveting your attention throughout”
The Wire - David Stubbs

Chris Abraham (piano), Tony Buck (drums), and Lloyd Swanton(bass) conjure a chemistry together that defies description in orthodox terms.
These three musicians are among the most respected and in-demand in Australia, working in every field from pop to avant-garde. Over 200 albums feature their presence individually or together, but the music of The Necks stands apart from everything else they have done.
Featuring lengthy pieces which slowly unravel in the most intoxicating fashion, frequently underpinned by an insistent deep groove, The Necks stand up to listening time and time again.

Monolake Live
Sat 23 Feb 2008, 10:00pm @ Coherent AK
A night of deep, stripped back techno and dubstep

“My music is about the exploration of sound, rhythm and structure, about the interaction between a sonic event and the space in which it happens”
Monolake is a German performer that fuses elements of minimal techno, dub and electronica to create an original sound. He was and is an influential element of the Berlin minimal techno scene. He last came to our shores in 2003 and it was a wicked night - 2008 promises to be no different. With a classy local support line-up, including a live tech-dubstep set by Wilberforce, this is a show not to be missed.

Robert Henke, composer and digital media artist from Berlin, will give a sound performance Layering Buddha for Contempo. His practice ranges between the worlds of contemporary electronic music and gallery or site-specific interactive works. Layering Buddha is an immersive multichannel sound work that has been recently recognised by the Prix Ars Electronica. Created by layering short loops derived from a cheap toylike sound playback device called an FM3 Buddha Machine, via the process of manipulating and multiplying the original sounds, dense, colourful and fragile yet massive sonic sculptures are shaped during the performance. The audience experiences the piece from within a mulit speaker setup, completely surrounded by changing fields of sound.
